Afrormosia
A teak substitute: fine-textured, very durable, for decks, boats and joinery.
Overview
Afrormosia has a fine-textured, yellow-brown heartwood with darker veins that turns dark brown in the light. It is very durable to durable and needs no preservative even in permanent damp, so it is used as a substitute for teak in decking, boat building and exterior joinery, as well as for flooring, indoor stairs and fine furniture. It is listed in CITES Appendix II and is traded with CITES permits. The interlocked grain can tear when planing, and the wood tends to stain when glued.
