American Black Cherry
Reddish brown with a natural lustre, for fine furniture and panelling.
Overview
American black cherry grows from south-eastern Canada through the eastern half of the United States. Its heartwood ranges from light to dark reddish brown with a distinctive lustre, around a narrow, nearly white sapwood. It has a fairly uniform texture, machines very well, and is moderately heavy, strong and moderately hard; it shrinks fairly strongly while drying but is very stable once dry. It goes into furniture, fine veneered panels, architectural woodwork and panelling.
