American Red Oak
Brown with a tinge of red and open-grained, for floors, furniture and millwork.
Overview
American red oak is a heavy hardwood from the eastern United States, with nearly white sapwood and a brown heartwood with a tinge of red. Its open pores set it apart from white oak, and quarter-sawn faces show broad, conspicuous rays. It shrinks fairly strongly while drying and needs preservative treatment for use outdoors, so it is used mainly indoors, for flooring, furniture and general millwork.
