American White Ash
Heavy, hard and shock-resistant, for furniture, floors and handles.
Overview
American white ash grows in the eastern half of the United States. Its heartwood is brown and its sapwood light-coloured or nearly white, and the wood is heavy, strong, hard and stiff with a high resistance to shock, which makes it the classic timber for tool handles, oars and sports equipment. It is also used for decorative veneer, cabinets, furniture, flooring and millwork. Its heartwood has slight or no resistance to decay, so it is an interior timber.
