Frake (Limba)
A light-coloured, easy-working hardwood for joinery, mouldings and cores.
Overview
Frake, also traded as limba or afara, is a West and Central African hardwood of medium weight with a light yellow wood; some logs have a greyish-black, veined heart. It nails well and dries quickly with little risk of distortion or checking, which suits interior joinery, mouldings, furniture parts and seating, blockboard cores and plywood veneer. It is poorly durable and susceptible to wood borers, so it is an interior timber unless treated. The sawdust may cause allergic reactions during machining.
